Make Plans Now to join the SC 7 Expedition
“There is nothing more rewarding than being a part of something larger than oneself. With the South Carolina 7 Expedition, everyone makes a difference by joining, following, and spreading the word about the beauty of the Palmetto State and what we can all do to keep it that way.” ~ Marie Goff
Get to know South Carolina! Join Expedition Leader Dr. Tom Mullikin and the South Carolina 7 Expedition from the Mountains to the Sea starting on 1 July 2022.
Here are two examples of a month-long itinerary, some of the fantastic sites you’ll see at the beginning of the Expedition, Upstate S.C., the mountains, waterfalls, creeks, and rivers.
Day 3, join the South Carolina 7 Expedition on the Eastatoe Passage. Hike (4.6 miles) from Keowee-Toxaway Park to Dug Mountain Fishing Access.
Zeke Bridge, a 95-foot suspension bridge, offers birds-eye views of the magnificent forest.

Enjoy rock-strewn Eastatoe Creek and lush foliage along Eastatoe Passage.

Join the South Carolina 7 Expedition on Day 6. Hike to the Roof of the Palmetto State (2.1 miles) to the summit of Sassafras Mountain.

Palmetto Trail signs point the way as you hike deeper into the forest.

At the top of Sassafras Mountain (3.533 feet), stand with one foot in S.C. and the other in N.C. View extraordinary mountain ranges in both states.

Table Rock Mountain comes into view along the way.

How To Participate
Plan your participation by reading the Field Guide, published by the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. The guide provides a daily itinerary, start and stop points, highlights, and tips on preparing.
Use the resources to enhance your experience and learn more about the Palmetto State. They are all chock full of beautiful illustrations and pictures.

You’ll soon see that the itinerary offers something for everyone. Short in and out hikes, some on flat terrain such as Rails to Trails. Plan for longer, more challenging hikes with friends. Park an additional car at the end of the trail.
The Palmetto Trail goes through the heart of South Carolina, from MOuntains to Sea. You’ll find Passages that allow you to commute from and to your home. For areas further away, use an App to find discounted hotel rooms.
Pack a light backpack with water, snacks, and a rain poncho.
Hikes are short enough to allow participants to enjoy the surrounding areas.
The quaint mountain town of Traveler’s Rest, S.C., is 19 miles from Table Rock State Park. The town is close enough to many areas of the areas you’ll be hiking with the South Carolina 7 Expedition. The 22-mile Swamp Rabbit Trail (walking and biking) runs through Travelers Rest. It’s just behind the Whistle Stop Cafe, a great place to enjoy more South Carolina Trails, great food, and hometown hospitality.

Stick around long enough to enjoy a beautiful sunset like this one in Pickens, S.C.

Partnerships for Success
The South Carolina 7 Expedition is a partnership between Global Eco Adventures (Dr. Tom Mullikin-Chairman) and S.C. National Heritage Corridor (Michelle McCollum-CEO).

Dr. Tom Mullikin – Expedition Leader “SC7 is an expedition across one of the most beautiful places on earth – the Palmetto State. An expedition from the Mountains to the Sea designed to introduce mountains, rivers, waterfalls, trails and a beautiful coastline and encourage meaningful conversation about conservation of these beautiful areas.”

Michelle McCollum – Logistics Officer and Detail Aficionado “SC7 is a first-of-its-kind expedition to involve thousands of people in one spectacular event. I love being a part of this effort that highlights the work of our residents, communities, and corporations to provide outdoor recreation and protect those resources for future generations.”
